Six notes, every interval a whole step. There is not a single half step in it.
Because the spacing is perfectly even there is no centre. Start on any note and you get the same scale, which is why only two distinct whole tone scales exist.
That evenness means no key is felt. It slides without direction, which is why it appears in dream sequences and scene transitions.
In practice it goes over a 7♯5 chord. The scale contains an augmented triad, which matches that chord exactly.
Practice
The fretboard shape repeats regularly. Learn one position and it transfers a whole step at a time.
There is no diatonic chord table. With only six notes, stacking triads by skipping every other note does not work out.
Hold a 7♯5 chord and play over it. You will hear where this scale belongs immediately.
